WEEK 47 PC Challenge~JAMAICA

Yep I did IT! I stayed on track this week and even posted the post card challenge on a Friday!

The delightful country we visited this week  was Jamaica - The land of rum, Margaritaville, dreadlocks, bobsled teams , beautiful turquoise water, amazing beaches, and Yes something called Reggae.
But not all of Jamaica is beautiful, it is a very  poor&  improvised country. BUT a PROUD Country; and  do they love to have a good time, by partying late into the morning with lots of food and  wonderful music. Majority of their income is based on tourist flocking to the beaches.

Picking a subject for my card wasn't so easy, (because I kept thinking of so many things to use); so I just did a bunch of   uniquely Jamaican  things on my page.

FRONT of CARD

FIRST of All -I must Confess I LOVE BUTTERFLIES!
So when I kept seeing
this  butterfly on Jamaican souvenir  clothing -
I knew I had to use that theme for my card.
First of sprayed 3 colors of Dylusional Spray on watercolor paper.
Then I drew the outline of the butterfly & outlined  it in Pitt marker.
To get  the coloring of  the Jamaica flag more pronounced ,
I painted certain areas with more Dylusional Spray;
directly from the bottle with a paint brush.

BACK of CARD

Correspondence :

"My Loving Alexander,
Since we last meet in Monaco,
I went to Jamaica to soak up some sun before heading
home to Greece. I miss You so much; but knowing "WE"
will be together once Reuben & Pierre are
punished for their crimes, brings me much PEACE!
You know the locals in Jamaica really know how
to relax and party. I bought you a dreadlocks hat-
Can't wait to see you in it-
Do you think we can spend Christmas together?
Love,
Melite"

PAGE in BOOK

Process of the page:
First I had to figure out where to place PC on page.(top)
Next I drew the Country name, divided it out
to represent the Jamaica flag and colored with Pitt markers.
I drew the frog next-(remembered seeing one on-line
wearing a Beret with dreadlocks) and he was colored with Pitt markers.
Colored the background with 3 shades of yellow & green
PanPastelles. Stenciled geometric shapes with orange pastelle.
Found the image of Bob Marley and palm trees  online-
The last image is a DOCTOR BIRD-  the national bird.
He was drawn and painted with twinkling H2O's-
such a gorgeous iridescent bird so he really
is very iridescent & shiny (pic bad).

THANKFULNESS

By now we  should have  celebrated our  Thanksgiving -went shopping  for those "buys" of Black Friday. NOT ME!!

 I have been taking it easy today - just being THANKFUL for spending all of yesterday with my parents & family. (even though many tears flowed during grace; given the events of the last 2  1/2 months) The food was great (ate way to much!) and as a Family we have all changed so much- We have always been close family; BUT now we show it much more. Even the young nieces and nephews hugged everyone yesterday and told  All of us how much they loved us as they departed. My father's health  has continued to decline; but he was able to speak for brief periods throughout the day, and he LOVED the mashed up pumpkin pie! My Brother was able to attend , he looked weak ,but his appetite was good. (Considering 2 weeks ago it was touch and go with him)- He has a long way to go in his recovery - we just have to make sure he takes the prescribed medications so his kidneys do not decline again.{ he would be described as a non-compliant patient in the medical world}

So as life goes on; I  have realized a cornucopia of issues occur in every one's life.
BUT I'm finally realizing in OUR darkest hours ; peace,
love and Joyful memories are possible-
the pain  is  easing  as the days pass...
We just need to ask for help when we need it,
reach out to our Loved Ones,
keep our Faith in our maker ,
and we can Be BLESSED in the mist of such horrific tragedies.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING
and I wish You a Start to a
BLESSED HOLIDAY SEASON!

Week 46 PC Challenge ~TIBET

Well the last month of this challenge  is just around the corner.  So I'm working hard to get caught up.

This week  the country was  Tibet. Such a struggling country- much political unrest but yet a country of such Colorfulness- Religion is so important to the country, many beautiful monasteries and monks  that wear such plain but colorful outfits-the religious ceremonies are also bright. Many people hang colorful flags for spiritual reasons around  shrines and up in the mountains. The Himalaya mountains are so amazing and a source of tourist  income  Now lets get to my card.

FRONT of CARD
This card is based on Sand paintings that many Monks make-
This is textured with  glass bead gel but can not tell it on this view.
Underneath the gel medium  was colored with colored pencils.

 BACK of CARD
Correspondence:
" My Dearest Melite,
I'm on my way home. I stopped in Tibet to attend
to some work related projects.
This country is so colorful, with all the flags flying, native costumes,
and the Monks in their colorful garb.
The Monasteries and Himalaya Mountains are so striking!
As beautiful as they are  I sense turmoil from the political unrest...
 No updates from my Detectives.

Love You & Miss You!!
Alexander"

PAGE in BOOK
Images included  is a Shakyamuni Buddha.
Mount Everest of the Himalaya Mountains
The corner image is Tibet in native language and
it symbolizes the bloodshed occurring there currently.

WEEK 45 PC Challenge ~~MONACO

Well I'm back on track -well sorta-This last 2 months have been unbearable at times; but I promised myself I would complete this challenge. - This posting has been delayed because my oldest brother had emergency surgery Sat evening for strangulated bowel and perforation. He is starting to recover with some issues of kidney failure  and pneumonia, but  otherwise he is  stablizing.

Now lets get to the PC Challenge- This week our 2 lovers have FINALLY meet up in Monaco. They  went there originally hoping to find and prosecute "Reuben" related to the events  that occurred in Austria. Keeping with the multiple twists in this story; they were unable to locate "Reuben" ; but they shared some 'time' together.

This is a colored pencil drawing of the Palace casino in Monaco.
Based from an old 1950's postcard  done in Prismacolor CP and

what he did to You!! My detectives are following a new clue-
hopefully they can find  him soon! In the mean time we

the image was based from a an old magazine ad.
I outlined the basic building in light blue colored pencil.
Then water colored entire page with a very light wash of turquoise blue .
Next I went over certain areas to get the blueprint appearance
with Prisamacolor Verithin colored pencil.
Next step was more water coloring with Antwerp Blue to ad
bold details. Since this took so long
I just cut out the image of the Ballerina from another ad.
Russia title hand draw and colored with Pitt pens.

Well Once again I enjoyed the process for making these entries.

M.I.A. UPDATE

First of all I want to Take time to THANK everyone that  sent words of condolences  during these last very difficult   6 1/2  weeks. Since my  last update to  my blog ; my family suffered  an additional 3  deaths in that time frame.  It just seemed like I was attending a funeral everyday (4 funerals in 21 days ) and grieving non-stop-When I look back on it now it just seems like a Bad dream that we could not wake up from ...

While looking for any words of  strength & encouragement to get me; and my family, though this time of grieving ,I found this wonderful poem that I would like to share with everyone,

"Grieving is a journey that teaches us how to love in a new way now that our loved one is no longer with us. Consciously remembering those who have died is the key that opens the hearts, that allows us to love them in new ways."
- Tom Attig,

These words were striking to me and I hope they may bring comfort to any one else in their struggles.
Needless-to -say my health suffered a lot; and I have been battling  a "Viral Syndrome" for over 7 weeks now with frequent visits to doctors etc- I have tried to stay caught  up on the Post card challenge as best I could -So please accept my apology for not leaving comments in that time frame. I have managed to get a few cards done and plan to blog them over the weekend.[ I will complete this challenge!]. This challenge has allowed me to grow in  so many ways in my art; and  I hope everyone else has felt this way as well. So I wanted to make sure to THANK Darcy for sponsoring it  and Thank   everyone for participating in the challenge .

Happy Creating ,

Heaven's Newest Angel

Heaven's Newest Sweet Angel
My Beloved Niece Tracy

( Taken October 1, 2011)

Our  Hearts have been broken -

My Beloved Niece was laid to rest this week after a long and Courageous battle with a multitude of medical issues. This beautiful, fun loving 35 year old lost her life way too soon. But I'm  so happy she had time this summer  to enjoy life by having fun with her friends and cousins ; like a young person should have had plenty of time to do.  Tracy did  live long enough to see both her much loved brother & sister get married;  and she was so happy to be an aunt in the future(regretfully she is now taking care of that nephew in heaven). She treated her God daughter like her daughter ; but her real baby was Harley ;her chihuahua(who misses his Mommy so much already). Tracy  had the most beautiful smile and amazingly loud , infectious laugh that filled the room;the vibe in the room would change instantly when she arrived - If it was quiet it became loud & fun.  She lived life to make sure  everyone around her had a great time- Her compassion for others was Amazing even when she was in pain almost daily.
All she wanted to be most in  life was a  Nurse (neuro-vascular patients were her favorite)- even though she suffered almost daily -she  did  not let her illness  impact her performance-she did every job ,she every had to the   to the fullest. Her co-workers,  the students she trained,  and patients loved her!  This last week her family has received an amazing amount of support  from all those people, but her multitude of family  and friends will Miss Her deeply, but we must take solace that she  is taking care of her beloved nephew Ethan; playing cards with her Grandpa Steve & Grandma Ginny, Uncles Bob, Don & Aunt Charlotte, and  she'll be there to greet my Father soon.

My comfort comes in the fact I know she is now stress free  & pain free.
Her  surviving  parents , brother & sister, grandparents , 10 aunts & uncles , know they will join her someday ; but we WILL MISS HER   and LOVE HER Every Day until then!
I AM SO proud I was Tracy's Aunt and when  she left this earth to start   her
new journey;  she knew she was SO LOVED!!

The one thing I hope that comes out of this tragedy is:
We MUST  Love Our Family  Members even More-
If you have not contacted a Family member or friend in a long time - CALL THEM and tell them You Love them , because you may not have time do  to it  later.
Parents hug your children daily and tell them you LOVE Them !

I need some time to heal , but I will try to keep my blog up to date
and will post my projects at a later date.

TO ALL my wonderful Friends and ARTING COMMUNITY  .
Thank You for all the Support
I Love all of You ,

Postcard Challenge Week 36~ EGYPT

Well I'm back on track -last week we were in Hungary ( but I was on a mini holiday-so I will be posting card later) and Alexander wrote back to Melite some disturbing news [Remember come back for posting]- So this week Melite sends a card back to Alexander telling him of her upcoming trip to Egypt. Everyone knows Egypt is the land of Pharaohs, scarabs, King Tut , pyramids, the Nile River and of course the  land of sand dunes. Since I couldn't chose just one of these as my main topic; I honored them all on my  book page.

Front of Card
Did this watercolor based on a photo I found on the internet-
Thought it depicts so much of Egypt in one setting.
Loved the pyramids in the background and the
camel caravan was a great subject.

Back of Card
Correspondence:
"My Dearest Alexander,
I'm so sorry that you were injured on my behalf-
So since we now know Reuben (the waiter) left the restaurant
so quickly in Austria; is it possible he knew you were
on your way to talk to him?
Since I'm still not able to recall things,
I'm going back to the Neurologist to try a new treatment.
I'm going to Egypt in a few weeks -
Can WE meet there?
Miss you.
Melite"
{Once again my camera seems to blur  the writing}

Page in Book

Well as you can see I found this amazing
picture of the map of Egypt on-line.
Done in Liquidtex inks and pen.
The image on left is a die-cut from
K& Co, the other images are stamps. They
were colored using twinkling H2O's.
(Not sure you can see but they glister
in the light). The title was cut
from an ad in a  travel magazine and colored
with Gold Posca paint pen

Completed Book Page

Well it has been another great virtual travel week -
Going to be gone next week -So I will be late posting
BUT I'll let you know when I'm back up to date.

Postcard Challenge Week 34~JAPAN

Darcy took us  back across the ocean to Japan- I thought of many things to use for my card,  such as geisha's, warriors, dragons, anime, ninja and koi fish. Since there were so many interesting things to do ; I chose several things to put on my page: Mt. Fuji, cherry blossoms, shrines and pagodas . My card was probably the easiest thing to do - Recently our world famous art museum held an exhibition on the Birds of Nature. It was small but amazing-they displayed 7 Audubon bird illustrations (including the whooping crane and American Flamingo-they were huge and amazing to see in person). There were several paintings done by Japanese artists ,most which included the crane as their subject. Anyways I think of cranes as a symbol of Japan (either  origami cranes or real cranes). The interpretation of meanings for  the crane vary , such as : Honor & loyalty, good fortune, longevity and peace (fits my storyline perfect)... So here's my work for the week.

FRONT of Card
Lots of techniques on the postcard. First I drew a crane.
Colored with Copic markers and micron pen details.
Next I used yellow green Pan pastells to color  the background.
Masked the crane and over stamped Japanese  script stamp
in black ink. Let it dry. Using white  eraser I removed a small area
of  pastel color -Added Red chop in lower left corner.
Finally a second color of green Pan pastells was used
to tone background  symbolic writing down .

 BACK of Card
Correspondence:
"Dear Alexander,
Okay now you have me Very worried!!!
What if the waiter Reuben is the cause for my distress?
Why is it I can't even remember him?
Please be careful- I'm concerned about your safety...
I don't know what I'd do if you get hurt on my behalf!
My best friend Sophia took me on holiday
with her to  Japan. I did a little art
including this crane~which
symbolizes good fortune, longevity and peace!
Hope to See  you soon,
Melite"

PAGE in Book

Several subjects on the page -First of all the center oval
picture is a watercolor of Mt Fuji- Then I drew cherry blossoms on right
side -also done with watercolors & markers
Colored entire background with several tones of pink Pan Pastells.
Drew a shrine in lower right corner & pagoda in left corner.
These were colored in with black Pitt brush markers.

Complete Page in Book

This week I changed  my work up  some- I went for a more muted, pastel color scheme
Also my storyline is really heating up -
Wonder if the truth can be safely found out by Alexander?
Will Melite and Alexander meet soon?
To Find out keep coming back to visit my Blog & PLEASE all visitors leave A comment
Love to hear what you think of the Post card challenge and my weekly art work

Happy Creating !

Postcard Challenge WEEK 33~SOUTH AFRICA

Another week has flown by; so another posting of the Postcard challenge-This week we were sent to the Land of South Africa. A land of such diversity- many exotic animals, and gorgeous landscapes; but yet such a troubled country. I must say there was an abundance of ideas this week to chose from; but to stay with with my storyline I chose the Savannah. There is this amazing free flight bird sanctuary called "Birds of Eden" at Plettenberg Bay. It houses over 250 species and 3500 total birds; most of these birds exist in the world's largest hectare; therefore they are so calm around visitors; so viewing them is easy. My subject for my card is a bird associated with South Africa- The SECRETARY BIRD.

FRONT OF CARD

The Secretary Bird is closely related to raptors,
but is built like a crane (tall with  stilt like legs).
They stand almost 4 feet tall, travel alot on land ,
eat mostly snakes and small rodents-definitely
not a Bird to tangle with -very mean!
Done in watercolors, makers and lots of
gray pen work.

BACK OF CARD

Correspondence:
"My Dearest Melite,
Well I have moved on from India to South Africa-
Sorry for being out of contact; not many
postal dept. where I have traveled. The
land of South Africa is Amazing!-from the dry
 Savannahs, subtropical, to beautiful shoreline.
Spent some time viewing the "Birds of Eden Sanctuary"
at Plettenberg Bay-amazing collection of over
3500 birds-All in fee flight hectare-
Secretary Bird my fav.
Anyways I'm heading to Vienna
to visit Figlmuller restaurant - to check
on a waiter named Reuben...
Take care I'm working on
finding
You Peace & Love!
Alexander"

In the background of the card is an image
of the Baobab Tree ( for some reason my camera does not
like to focus on writing ) and a postage stamp showing
a full view of what a secretary bird looks like.

Page in Book
All images are photos(except love birds in center) ,
I took at our amazing local zoo's African Savannah.
The zoo has open plains for these animals to roam freely ;
the birds are kept in a free flight rainforest
(nice but difficult to see them all the time).
Which makes you feel you are in Africa.
Found the Africa flag font online .

WELL THAT'S THIS WEEKS CARD
RETURN NEXT WEEK for
the next installment of the virtual
Postcard challenge.

Postcard Challenge WEEK 32~MALTA

This week we find no new correspondence from Alexander (since India) . Since Melite is still haunted by the unknown events of Austria; in a last ditch effort she decides to make a side trip to Malta. Melite hopes by visiting all the tranquil settings of Malta; ( including the many  amazing churches) she hopes to find peace that has been missing from her life the last 6 months.  One of the amazing churches Melite visits is the San Gwann Parish Church. This is a relativity new church(1959), it was built over an old cave site where many other churches once stood .The San Gwann Parish Church was built by Capuchin Friars and the church is dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes.
One interesting Fact about  Malta is it  has over 359 churches , which equals 1 church for every Kilometer!

FRONT OF CARD
This is my version  of the gorgeous painting
that hangs above the altar at
San Gwann Parish. It was done in watercolors and
a little pen work. The image is of the Virgin Mary giving
instructions to  Bernadette Soubirous to return the grotto.
(Bernadette was 14 years old when she had the first apparition.)
Bernadette returned the grotto several times and finally dug
a hole to reveal a  stream of "Holy Water" that lead to several miracle cures.
Bernadette later became a Saint,  and  the location of the stream
became a  shrine to "Virgin Mary "
One of the  sayings Virgin Mary said to Bernadette was:
'I promise to make you Happy, Not in this
World, but in the Next'

 BACK of CARD

Rather Plain back this week; but here's what Melite writes to Alexander:

"My Dearest Alexander,
Since I have  not hear back from you ; I'm assuming
you are still in India trying to save the Bengal Tigers.
I have decided to venture out on my own trip. I went to
Malta looking for some Peace from all the visions ...
I visited many old churches while here but; was predictably
drawn to two. The San Gwann Parish Church and the
Parish Church of Our Lady of Carmel in Fgura. They are
newer churches but a deep connection to  the healing
powers of the 'Virgin Mary'-
I did get blessed by the Friars here with Holy Water
and pray this may lead to 'me healing'.
I hope by the time I get back to Greek homeland
of Schiza you will have sent me a card.
Please take care of yourself ,
Melite"

PAGE in BOOK

This is the view of Our Lady of Caramel Parish Church
in Fgura, Malta at night .  Done in acrylics  with the stain glass
windows done in watercolors - The background in was done
shades of blues to black. The 'Malta' title was stamp
onto an image of the beautiful handmade Malta lace.

COMPLETED PAGE

This was an interesting week of arting -
Most of my weekend was spent away from home-
Traveling to a stamp &  paper arts convention
So I will be viewing everyone's  work tomorrow.

POST CARD CHALLENGE Week 31~DENMARK

Well this week has been more difficult than last- Especially when I got home today to find out my posting did not post correctly ; therefore I'm entering the whole update tonight ! So Sorry for asking everyone to check out my blog a second time this week!

While researching  Denmark I found out  a few interesting facts about the country. First of all, did you know Denmark is "The HAPPINESS Country in the WORLD"? Secondly it was once known as a "Land of Many colors" - Thirdly Denmark is home to Legoland, Tivoli park ( reminds me of the modern day amusement park with lots of famous artwork mixed in )-Denmark has the world's biggest population of cyclist and of course they eat many strange foods such as smoked Eels (yuck!) I mostly thought of Denmark being cold , land of vikings , dragons, mermaids and the place where Hans Christian Anderson wrote about. Boy was I wrong -it really is a beautiful and colorful country. So with that in mind I wanted to make a colorful card and page.

FRONT OF CARD
This card is based on a travel ad from the 1930's -
How much more colorful could a sunset be than this?
Done in copic markers

BACK OF CARD
Correspondence:
My Dear Alexander,
So I hope while you were on your "Mission"you received my cards?
Am I correct in who Ruben was?
Because I'm still having visions of dark rooms and I'm not sure if this is my answer.
Anyways I stopped in Denmark (Copenhagen is so colorful and friendly!),
to check on purchasing sheep for my farm (no luck)-
Are you heading close to my home soon?
I miss you and long to have a deep conversation with you !
Until we meet  soon,
Melite"

PAGE IN BOOK

Lots of color here - First of all the sky, pier,
water and ships were done in water colors.
It is  Nyhavn Pier in the Copenhagen region.
(very  unique and colorful entry to a town).
Many of these buildings are restaurants & cafes.
Most photos  I found of this area was crowded
with lots of people strolling Hand-in-hand
(remember Happiest country). The buildings were
done in Prismacolor colored pencils. The title
of the page is in tribute to Legoland- I found a
Lego font and spelled out Denmark.
For good luck I added the flag of Denmark too.

COMPLETED PAGE

WELL SORRY For the technical issues this week -
Also  Thanks to everyone  for all the positive
 support these last 32 weeks-
Can't wait to view all the cards
from this week!

Happy Creating !
